Your gap fees at work: $5,000 supporting a local child

Kiama Downs Medical Practice has donated $5,000 from private gap-fee income to the William Campbell Foundation to help support the education, safe and stable housing, and broader care of a local child who has experienced foster care or another form of out-of-home care.

Kiama Downs Medical Practice depends on the local community. We believe some of the support we receive should flow back to people who have had less safety, stability and opportunity through no fault of their own.

Private gap fees primarily help sustain high-quality local medical care, our staff, facilities and services. They also make community contributions like this possible. A patient’s private gap fee is not automatically a charitable donation, and patients should not assume it is tax-deductible to them.

Why this donation matters

Every child deserves safety, belonging, education and the chance to build a secure future. A stable home and consistent support can make a meaningful difference to a child’s wellbeing and opportunities over time.

Out-of-home care can include foster care or kinship care. For some children, it can become a pathway to guardianship or adoption, while others return to family or move through different forms of care and support. Every child’s circumstances are different, and no single outcome should be assumed.

Supporting the William Campbell Foundation

The William Campbell Foundation is a South Coast not-for-profit supporting vulnerable children, young people and families through foster and permanency support, safe homes, education and related services.

The Foundation’s work includes support for children and families across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. Its William Campbell College provides a safe and personal learning environment for children who need additional support with education.

Our $5,000 contribution will help support education, stable housing and broader care. It does not fully fund these services, and we are not sharing information about an individual child.

Respecting privacy and dignity

The child will not be identified and their personal history will not be shared. We want to support their future while respecting their privacy and dignity.

Giving back to our community

This contribution is part of our continuing commitment to direct a portion of the practice’s resources towards practical local projects that improve health, inclusion, dignity and opportunity.
