If you are a New Patient

You will need to please:

  • book a 30 minute appointment
  • if possible bring a health summary or referral from your usual GP
  • if possible bring results for these pathology tests: FBC, Fe Studies, LFT, UEC, CMP.
  • After this appointment, your GP will arrange an iron infusion in the 1-2 weeks afterwards
  • The reason you need this first appointment before your infusion is because many patients actually should not have an iron infusion, and so your GP here might be able to help you resolve your problem without getting you to pay for infusions or go through the risks that they have.

Booking Iron infusions

Iron infusions will be booked in by your GP in Kiama Downs after your appointment if your GP feels an Iron infusion is the best decision in discussion with you.

Iron infusions can rapidly restore your iron levels and can rapidly fix energy levels and fatigue. First you need to book here to see a GP in Kiama Downs to check if an iron infusion is safe for you.

Iron infusions are needed:

  • when you need a rapid increase in iron (sometimes before operations, after pregnancy or if you have a serious conditions like a heart problem)
  • if iron tablets aren't working (if you get side effects from iron tablets or if they aren't helping to raise iron levels or if they aren't safe for you)

Are iron infusions safe?

Sometimes iron infusions aren't the best option, even if your iron is low. They can have some risks like allergic or serious reactions, or skin staining. If your GP in Kiama Downs recommends an iron infusion, they will provide you with information first about what the risks are and the benefits so that you can decide what the best option is for you.
