Mental Health

All GPs in Kiama Downs are focused on both the physical and mental health and wellbeing of their patients. GPs Registrars in Kiama Downs have additional training in mental health and can help people with depression, anxiety and many other conditions. If you want to make an appointment to talk to one of the GPs about they ask that you please always book a double appointment. This gives GPs more time to help you by listening properly to your story and your worries or concerns. Our GP Registrar Doctors do not bulk bill but can reduce their fee under severe hardship or other circumstances. This needs to be discussed with your GP at the time of your consultation and cannot be guaranteed.

Emergencies

Sometimes people can become very unwell with mental health conditions.

• Please remember that at any time if you are feeling unwell, afraid or that you might want to harm yourself or others that you can always call 000 in an emergency (Call 112 from mobiles). This also applies if you are worried for someone else who is struggling with mental health.
• For less urgent phone advice you can call the local Illawarra/Shoalhaven Mental Health team on 1800 011 511 or call Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.

Free online chat and email advice for mental wellbeing is also available at beyondblue.org.au/get-support. Their site also includes lots of written information and videos about anxiety, depression, social anxiety and many other conditions.

Alcohol and other drugs or substances

Lots of people have troubles with using a little too much alcohol or pot/marijuana/dope. Lots of people also have problems with using other drugs too often or too much.
