What or who is Palliative Care for?

Palliative care is where doctor focus purely on your symptoms. Often with long term medical illnesses people can have pain or many other symptoms which are not managed well when doctors are over-focused on fixing things. Palliative care helps support people so that they can have more dignity and control over their illness. Sometimes people pass away or die without needing palliative care, but many people benefit from having the support of their GP and the local palliative care team weeks, months or sometimes even years before they pass away or die.

Our nurses and GP Registrar Doctors believe that a lot more joy and fulfilment can be gained by people when they are unwell with serious conditions by giving them more control over their symptoms or pain.
